Karatyaachi Kismoor (with onion)


It is a Goan side dish prepared from bitter gourd and coconut.

Measurement: 1 cup = 180 ml
Serves: 3 to 4

Ingredients:
  1. Bitter gourd -1/4 kg
  2. Onion (chopped) - 1 medium
  3. Scrapped fresh coconut - 1 1/2 cups
  4. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  5. Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
  6. Tamarind pulp - 1 tbsp
  7. Sugar - just a pinch
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Oil (preferably edible coconut oil) - 2 tbsp
Procedure:
  • Scrape bitter gourd skin and finely chop them.
  • Rub 3/4 tsp salt and keep it aside at least for 1 hr.
  • After 1 hr, squeeze it.
  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a frying pan and spread the chopped bitter gourd.
  • It should be fried on low flame till crispy and brown.
  • Take a mixing bowl and mix all the ingredients numbering 3 to 8.
  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and add onion.
  • Fry till golden brown.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of salt and transfer the mixture to it and mix well. Let it be on low flame for half a min.
  • At the time of serving add crispy bitter gourd.
