Green Coconut Chutney


Green coconut chutney is an accompaniment to the South Indian snacks.

Measurement: 1 Cup = 180 ml
Serves: 3

Ingredients:
  1. Scrapped coconut - 1 cup
  2. Roasted chana dal - 1 tsp
  3. Green chillies - 1-2
  4. Coriander leaves - 2 to 3 tbsp
  5. Garlic cloves - 5 to 8
  6. Ginger - 2 slices
  7. Cumin seeds - a pinch
  8. Tamarind - marble size ball
  9. Sugar - a pinch
  10. Water - 1/2 cup
  11. Salt to taste
For the tempering:
  1. Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
  2. Red chilly (broken) - 1
  3. Coconut oil - 1 tsp
Procedure:
  • Grind all the ingredients with water.
  • Give it a tempering  of mustard seeds and red chilly in coconut oil.
  • Serve with idli/dosa/uttapam/wada/appe.
Tip:
  • You may avoid garlic.
  • You may add roasted peanuts too while grinding.
