Akkha Masoor


Ingredients:

  1. Masoor - 1cup
  2. Onion (sliced) - 2 medium size
  3. Tomato (chopped) - 1 medium size
  4. Corriander leaves (chopped) - 1.5 tsp
  5. Crushed garlic - 5-7 cloves
  6. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  7. Cumin seeds - a pinch
  8. Hing- a pinch
  9. Turmeric powder - 1/8 tsp
  10. Chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
  11. Tamarind pulp - 1 tsp
  12. Kolhapuri masala/ kanda lasun masala/ garam masala - 1 tsp
  13. Oil - 1.5 tbsp
  14. Salt to taste


Procedure:

  • Wash and soak masoor for at least 2 hours.
  • Cook masoor and keep it aside.
  • Heat oil in a cooking pan or wok.
  • Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.
  • Add hing, garlic and onion.
  • Stir fry onion till it turns golden brown.
  • Add turmeric powder and tomato.
  • Stir fry til tomato gets cooked.
  • Add masala and chilly powder, stir fry for a few seconds.
  • Add cooked masoor, tamarind pulp and salt to taste.
  • Mix well, add approx. 1/2 cup water.
  • Simmer for 2-3 mins.
  • Garnish with corriander leaves.
  • Serve hot with chapati or bhakari
