Methichi bhaji is a Maharashtrian dish prepared from fenugreek leaves. It is a mild spicy, sweet and tangy dish with a slight bitterness of fenugreek.
Serves: 3
Ingredients:
- Methi (chopped) - 1/2 to 3/4 bunch
- Toor dal - 3 tbsp
- Groundnuts - handful
- Besan - 1 1/2 tbsp
- Roasted groundnut powder - 1 1/2 tbsp
- Tamarind pulp - 2 to 2 1/2 tbsp
- Jaggery - as per your requirement
- Salt to taste
For the Tempering:
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Cumin seeds - 1/3 tsp
- Hing - 1/4 tsp
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
- Goda masala - 1tbsp
Procedure:
- Soak toor dal for half an hour, soak handful of groundnuts for at least 3 hrs.
- Now pressure cook methi, dal and groundnuts with sufficient water on medium flame (8 to 10 whistles).
- Once it gets cooked, add besan, roasted groundnut powder, tamarind pulp, salt and jaggery to taste.
- Add water as per your requirement and simmer.
- While it simmers, heat oil and in a tempering pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, hing, turmeric powder, red chilly powder and goda masala.
- Add the tempering.
- Simmer for 2 mins and serve hot with chapati or masale bhat
