Dal Makhani




Whole split black grams and kidney beans cooked with onion and tomatoes with seasonings and topped up with cream or milk.

Measurement: 1 cup = 180 ml
Serves: 3
Ingredients:
  1. Whole urad dal - 1/4 cup
  2. Rajma - 3 tsp
  3. Onion (chopped) - 1 medium
  4. Tomato (chopped) -1 medium
  5. Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
  6. Green chilly (chopped) - 1
  7. Corriander (chopped) - for garnishing
  8. Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
  9. Garam masala - 3/4 tsp
  10. Coriander powder - 1/2 tsp
  11. Turmeric powder - 1/8 tsp
  12. Chilly powder - 1/4 tsp
  13. Fresh cream - 1 1/2 tbsp or Milk - 1/4 cup
  14. Pure ghee - 1 tbsp
  15. Salt to taste
Procedure:
  • Soak whole urad dal and rajma overnight, pressure cook till dal is overcooked. 
  • Whisk till dal is almost mashed. 
  • Heat pure ghee in a pan and add  cumin seeds.
  • Add onion, saute till golden brown.
  • Add green chilly, ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, chilly powder,  coriander powder, garam masala and tomato.
  • Once tomatoes are done, add  dal and salt.
  • Add water, stir well and simmer for 8 to 10 min.
  • Add fresh cream and stir well.
  • Garnish with coriander.
  • Serve with rice or parathas.
Tip:
  • You may add more ghee.
