Tomato Coconut Chutney




Tomato coconut chutney is prepared from stir fried tomato and onion ground with with coconut and spices.

Measurement: 1 Cup = 180 ml
Serves: 3

Ingredients:

  1. Tomato (chopped)- 1/2 cup
  2. Coconut (scrapped) - 2/3 cup
  3. Onion (diced) - 1 small
  4. Chana dal - 2 tsp
  5. Ginger - 3 slices
  6. Garlic - 6 to 8 cloves
  7. Cumin seeds -1/8 tsp
  8. Tamarind - a tiny piece
  9. Red chillies (broken) - 2 or as per your requirement
  10. Oil - 2 tsp
  11. Sugar - 1/4 tsp
  12. Salt to taste
For the Tempering:
  1. Oil - 1 tsp
  2. Mustard seeds - 1/3 tsp
  3. Curry leaves - 5 to 6
Procedure:
  • Heat oil in a pan and add chana dal, fry till chana dal turns golden brown. Take out.
  • Add onion and stir fry for a min.
  • Add red chillies, ginger and garlic, stir fry for a few seconds.
  • Combine all the ingredients and grind to a fine taste. Add water if required.
  • Transfer it to the serving bowl.
  • Heat oil in a tempering pan, mustard seeds and curry leaves.
  • Pour the tempering over chutney.
  • Serve with any type of dosa.
