Red Coconut Chutney


Red Coconut Chutney is an accompaniment to the South Indian snacks.

Measurement : 1 Cup = 180 ml
Serves: 3 to 4

Ingredients:
  1. Scrapped coconut - 1 1/4 cup
  2. Onion (chopped) - 2 tbsp
  3. Garlic Cloves - 6 - 8
  4. Ginger (chopped) - 1/3 tsp
  5. Kashmiri mirchi - 1
  6. Byadgi mirchi - 1-2
  7. Chana dal - 1 tsp
  8. Coconut oil - 1 tsp
  9. Tamarind -a small ball
  10. Salt to taste
Procedure:
  • Heat oil in tempering pan and add chana dal to it.
  • Slightly fry chana dal and add onion.
  • Fry onion till translucent and add red chillies, ginger and garlic.
  • Stir fry for 5 to 10 seconds.
  • Grind all the ingredients by adding 1/2 cup water to a smooth paste.
  • Serve with idli/ dosa/ uttapam/ appe.
