Dates and Tamarind Chutney


Dates and Tamarind chutney is the most important chutney in the preparation of chaat.

Ingredients:
  1. Tamarind - 125 gm
  2. Seedless dates - 8 to 10
  3. Jaggery (powder/ grated) - 250 gm
  4. Cumin powder - 1/2 tsp
  5. Cinnamon powder - a pinch
  6. Black salt - 1/2 tsp
  7. Salt - 1 1/4 tsp approx.
Procedure:
  • Soak dates and tamarind in warm water for at least half an hour.
  • Grind dates and tamarind to make pulp.
  • Strain the pulp and add jaggery to it.
  • Bring it to boil.
  • Add ingredients numbering 4 to 7.
  • Mix well.
  • Let it cool and store it in a glass jar. (It lasts for 3 to 4 months after refrigeration)
