Dal Kanyacho Ros

Ingredients:
  1. Toor dal - 4 tbsp
  2. Onion (chopped) - 1 big and 1 small for the tempering
  3. Green chillies - 2-3
  4. Coconut - 3 tbsp
  5. Goan Samaar - 2 tbsp
  6. Tamarind pulp - 2 to 2.5 tbsp
  7. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  8. Corriander leaves (chopped) - 1.5 tbsp
  9. Coconut oil - 1 tbsp
  10. Salt to taste
Procedure:
  • Cook dal, it should be half done.
  • Add onion, turmeric powder and green chillies, cook further.
  • Add water if necessary.
  • Add Goan samaar, tamarind pulp and salt.
  • Grind coconut to a coarse/fine paste and add it to dal.
  • Stir well and simmer for 2 min.
  • Add corriander leaves.
  • Heat oil in a tempering pan and fry onion till brown.
  • Pour the tempering over the cooking mixture.
  • Stir well.
  • Serve with steamed rice.

Tip:
  • You may use drumsicks or raddish in the preparation.
  • You may use either green chillies or chilly powder.
