Low Calorie Gobi Masala


Stir fried cauliflower cooked in tomato and onion based gravy with spices. It is a medium spicy dish and I have tried to make it with less oil or ghee, thereby making it a low calorie dish.

Serves: 3 to 4

Ingredients:
  1. Cauliflower (florets) - 1 small size
  2. Onion - (Sliced) 2 medium size, (chopped) 1 small size
  3. Tomato (Chopped) - 2 medium size
  4. Green chilly - 1 finely chopped
  5. Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  6. Kitchen king masala - 1 tbsp
  7. Coriander powder - 1/4 tsp
  8. Cumin powder- 1/4 tsp
  9. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  10. Kasuri methi -1/4 tsp
  11. Kashmiri mirchi powder - 1/2 tsp
  12. Regular chilly powder - 1/4 tsp
  13. Cumin seeds -1 tsp 
  14. Cashew nuts - 3
  15. Oil - 2 tsp
  16. Ghee - 1 tsp
  17. Salt to taste
  18. Sugar to taste
  19. Coriander leaves - for garnishing

Procedure:
  • Heat 1tsp oil in a kadai.
  • Add cauliflower and stir fry.
  • Simultaneously, heat 1 tsp oil in a pan and add sliced onion to it.
  • Saute onion.
  • Once onion turns translucent add tomatoes.
  • By now cauliflower will turn slight brown and change its flavour. Sprinkle little salt and little water, cover and cook.
  • Add cashew nuts to onion and tomatoes, allow it to cool. 
  • Make a fine paste of onion, tomatoes and cashew nuts.
  • Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds.
  • Add chopped onion before cumin seeds crackle.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and green chilly.
  • Stir fry for few seconds.
  • Add all the dry spices, stir fry for few seconds.
  • Add ground paste and stir well.
  • Add cauliflower, kasuri methi, salt and sugar.
  • Mix well.
  • Add required quantity of water. Simmer for 5 mins.
  • Add coriander leaves and it is ready to serve.
